Business Storytelling - Schnitzelbank
The Schnitzelbank opened in 1961 and is currently owned by Alan Hanselman and Gail Hanselman.
The story began in 1961 when Larry and Betty Hanselman became proprietors of a tavern that sat on this very spot. While running the tavern they were faced with competition that offered the same beer and spirits. Larry and Betty began looking for ways to set them apart from what everyone else was offering and began by reaching out to the local community for their favorite German recipes. The idea was quite the victory and customers continued to frequent the bar. It was such success that the old tavern was torn down, in 1971 the Schnitzelbank restaurant was born, and those German inspired recipes are still used today! The Schnitzelbank is still family owned and we welcome visitors from all around the world.
When asked what makes the establishment unique, the owners said “The Schnitzelbank restaurant is a landmark in our German community and is truly a destination. You will find yourself transported into a unique ‘olde world’ environment with classic German favorites like no other. The authentic history, original German family recipes, the melodies of the Glockenspiel tower, enchanting German gift shop, down to the das boot and dirndls worn by the wait staff. Truly a German inspired experience!”
The German and American recipes are known far and wide and The Schnitzelbank catering team offers home-cooked favorites using our on the spot mobile kitchens. Their Hampton Inn, is conveniently located right next door to the restaurant and they offer an event center, KlubHaus61, that can accommodate intimate gatherings, large events, and everything in between.
